Pregnancy is a special period in every parents life. It is a delicate state of health where you need to be more careful. Diet plans abundant and you can follow one according to your choice. Certain foods to avoid in pregnancy are listed below which may harm your and baby’s health.

Meat spreads

It is a savoury paste made from finely mashed ingredients such ground meat from pork, fish, beef, fat along with herbs and veggie. 

Pâté can be served either hot or cold, its gets best flavors after a few days of chilling. 

It’s not safe to eat any type of pate while you’re pregnant,  and this includes vegetable pate. All pate, whether it’s made from meat, fish or vegetables.

Refrigerated pate or meat spreads should be avoided because they may contain the bacteria listeria

Raw eggs

Raw eggs can carry disease-causing organisms like Salmonella bacteria, which can cause food poisoning. If you get sick from Salmonella, you’re likely to have a high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration.

Eggs must be well cooked through to avoid salmonella infection.

Soft mold ripened cheese

Don’t eat mold-ripened soft cheese, such as blue-veined cheese, Brie or Camembert, also avoid soft blue-veined cheeses such as Danish blue or gorgonzola. 

These are made with mold and they can contain listeria, a type of bacteria

There is a risk of listeria infection. Listeria is a group of bacteria that can cause potentially fatal infections to pregnant women and their babies.


It is recommended to reduce your caffeine intake as much as possible below 200mg a day during your pregnancy. 

High levels of caffeine have been linked to pregnancy complications.


There is no safe time to  drink  alcohol  during pregnancy

Alcohol can cause problems for the developing baby throughout pregnancy, including before a woman knows she is pregnant. 

Drinking alcohol in the first three months of pregnancy can cause the baby to have abnormal facial features.

Raw Fish

Raw fish that has been frozen is not safe during pregnancy, either. While freezing can destroy potentially harmful parasites, it does not kill pathogens.

Eating raw or undercooked fish or shellfish could result in an illness severe enough to cause a blood infection that could be life-threatening for you and your baby

Raw Meat

It’s best not to eat undercooked or raw meat during pregnancy, as it may make you ill and could even harm your baby. You may become infected with the toxoplasma parasite

Toxoplasma gondii is one of the world’s most common parasites.  Toxoplasmosis results from parasite infection usually occurs by eating undercooked contaminated meat, exposure from infected cat feces

It can cause serious complications for pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.

Unpasteurized Milk

Raw milk can carry dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Campylobacter, and others that cause foodborne illness, often called “food poisoning.” 

These bacteria can seriously injure the health of anyone who drinks raw milk or eats products made from raw milk.

Raw Shellfish

Raw shellfish may be contaminated with harmful bacteria and viruses, and therefore carries a higher risk of food poisoning.

As long as you cook shellfish thoroughly, it’s safe to eat during pregnancy. Cook oysters, clams, and mussels until the shells open

Unwashed fruits & Veggies

Toxoplasma gondii is one of the world’s most common parasites.  Toxoplasmosis results from parasite infection usually found on unwashed  fruits and vegetables, can be particularly harmful to a mom-to-be and her unborn baby.

It can cause serious complications for pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.
